Everything old is new again – Time to conserve, live frugally, become energy independent.

Well, the hope is back. People are looking for change and a new way of living is sprouting. Or is it so new?

Over at Jetson Green today Preston brings up the recent New York times article cited by Al Gore where he discusses President Nixon’s Project Idependance. A very old idea that we could become energy independent in a decade. An idea he had in 1970!

I mean, Al Gore mentions in Sunday’s Op-Ed in the NY Times that President Nixon established Project Independence 35 years ago with a goal to, in seven years time, develop the potential to meet our country’s energy needs without having to rely on any foreign energy sources.

Then Tree Hugger shows us that everything old is new again when they dust off posters from World War II urging us to conserve.

What we can learn from all of this is that everything old is new again. We have been here before and we didn’t keep it up or get it right. So, now we have another chance. We are headed in the right direction. This time let’s keep it new so it never has to be old again.
