Solar Cooker design wins $75,000 top prize at Financial Times Contest.
Some funny news came out today and it caught me a little by surprise. You see over at Treehugger and Ecogeek they were reporting on the Kyto Box. The Kyoto Box is a solar oven that was built for just under $7.00 using cardboard, some foil and a bit of natural insulation. It was the first prize winner in a contest held by the Financial Times. I think it is great they won, but I also think it is a bit strange for something like this, that has been around for decades, to be a winning new idea. Heck, I made one in scouts when I was a kid over 25 years ago!

It is eco-friendly, a great way to use recycled materials and reduce the use of fossil fuels. But, it is not a new invention.
So, what do you think? Should someone have won $75,000 for this? Or did a bunch of scouts get screwed?
