GenGreenLife and 3rdWhale have joined forces!

Submitted by Andrew Stone on Tuesday, 11 August 2009Comments

GenGreen3wlogoGenGreen and 3rdWhale have been providing the same service with directories listing green businesses throughout the country and this, just announced combining, of forces makes perfect sense for both of them.  Basically it will take the online directory of 25,000 businesses that 3rdwhale offered and boost it to 65,000.

What this will do is make it that much easier for you and I to find the businesses we want to and like to support both online and through a mobile application supported through iPhone(beginning at the end of August).  I personally have a listng on GenGreen and I look forward to the potential for my own green business from this union.

GenGreen is without doubt the undisputed leader in the green directory space,” said Boyd Cohen, Founder & CEO of 3rdWhale. “Collaborating with them to combine their expertise with our mobile leadership yields a powerful force in the green digital revolution.”

3rdWhale Mobile is the leading provider of mobile solutions to triple-bottom-line businesses and values-aligned NGO’s, building applications across several platforms including iPhone, Blackberry, and Android. By handing over U.S. database responsibilities to GenGreen, 3rdWhale’s team of mobile developers will now be able to more fully embrace its mission of “Mobilizing the Green Revolution,” by working with businesses anxious to expand their reach using mobile platforms.

“Collaboration is the one and only way we will be able to make the kind of large scale impact necessary to change our environmental future” said Charisse McAuliffe, Founder & CEO of GenGreen. “The decision to partner with 3rdWhale, the leader in mobility and sustainability, is proving to be one of the smartest decisions we have made as a company”.

If I were to have any problem with this I would have to say that I don’t like the fact that the application is going to cost $1.99.  Applications such as this have to potential to do so much good and provide the public with information that they are both looking for and want.  Charging for the application will drive many away and those who are listed in the directory do pay to be there so revenue certainly could be generated in other ways.  So I do hope to see changes in the pricing structure (clarification based on comment:  Free business listings are available and their are fees only for further enhancements.)

Hello everyone. Interesting subject for a blog. I have been checking out many blogs and forums lately. Some are really informative some are entertaining and some are a real crack up. I must admit it, great job on this blog, I'll be sure to check back again real soon http://www.cheapusameds.com

Hi - thank you for your write up, I appreciate it! I just wanted to clarify something else too - company's DON'T have to pay to be on GenGreen. Yes, there is a option for businesses who choose to pay to have additional viability and get certified, (vs. just being approved by our content team) but that is not a requirement to be listed in our database.
I wish there was a way to have a free database and free app downloads, but until advertising revenue returns to our online worlds, charging something for it is the only way we can keep creating things that help make the world a better place.
  • Thanks Charisse, I posted a clarification.
  • Thanks much, we hope this benefits your business as well. FYI, 25 cents of every app sold goes to 5 different green/environmental NGOs, Natural Capital Solutions, EarthShare, Orangutan Rescue, Wiser Earth, and Heart Of The World. We are going to steadily increase what you get with the app, first up later this month being the inclusion of 3 news channels, MNN Local, CSRWire and Creative Citizen sourced Eco Matters, which is news coupled with actions you can take. And that's just the start :)
  • @Paul

Thanks for the comment. The 25 cent give back definately takes the bite off!!!
  • Yes, and the fact that three of those orgs were entirely nominated and voted on by people like yourself, from around world. And we'll be doing it again.
